This course addresses narrative history through a study of French literature by women, including lai, short story and novel. Cultural questions viewed from the feminine perspective as well as genre and style will be central topics of the course. Selected texts from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Classical Age, the Romantic Period and/or the 20th and 21st centuries may be chosen from French and Francophone literature. Participation in the Languages Recital is required. FRE 322 is pitched at the B2/C1 CEFR levels. Prerequisite: any 300-level French course. Cross-listed as WST 322 for students seeking a minor in Women's Studies; WST 322 will not meet a requirement of the French major or minor. Fall semester, every third year.
