This course is designed to prepare the senior nursing student for a professional registered nurse position in the healthcare system. The course includes application of concepts of management and leadership, while exploring trends and issues in the profession of nursing. The student will examine current trends and issues within healthcare today including patient safety, quality improvement, patient and family centered care, healthy work environments, and nurses role in formal and informal leadership positions. Students will work in teams to develop a Quality Improvement project that focuses on improving a nursing process or practice in a healthcare setting. Students will also write a reflection paper on Josie’s Story by Sorrell King. The course will include reading assignments, forum posts, and participation in class activities.
