Performance Studies lies at the intersection of anthropology and the performing arts investigating how social performances and those in our daily lives are indicative of the culture in which they are created.  Students will study and analyze performances through the categories of ritual, play, identity, and the arts to further investigate their place within culture and how it is inscribed upon their lives and experiences.  From sporting events to food, the media to celebrations -- all are considered to illuminate the ways performance form our notions of community, culture, and self.
